Bravo, Mr. Steinbauer.

The Bride and I went to see this documentary last week, about probably our favorite viral video of all time.  It was so great - I was a bit unprepared for how many layers there are to this guy...we both got a little misty-eyed while watching (actually she cried over it the next day as well).  Director Ben Steinbauer did a GREAT job with this - please support him if you can by seeing it in the theater (it was held over for another week at Alamo Drafthouse Ritz in ATX).

It was fun to be there to watch the documentary with other Winnebago Man fans - I don't think it would have been the same watching it at home, though however you get to see this, I know you'll enjoy it.  I really think even if you haven't seen the original viral video (where have you been?), you could still totally enjoy the film - it's that well done.  There was even a Q&A with the director and one of the producers after the screening, and Ben called Jack Rebney (Winnebago Man, for the uninitiated) on his cell phone, held it up to the microphone, and a few audience members got to ask Jack questions!  Pretty cool.

 Of course there was merch - and we were happy to support the cause by buying a bunch.  My coffee the next morning tasted better with the oft-repeated phrase "My mind is just a piece of SHIT this morning" on the side of my WM mug.

The original, low quality Quicktime file I got from a friend long ago has brought myself and my band so many laughs over the years - to this day we still quote lines from it to help us cope with our travels and bad days on the road.

My Wife Is Cool, and I Just Wanted You To Know

The other reason I camped at Canyon of the Eagles Nature Park was to go to the Star Party that night hosted by the Austin Astronomical Society.  Once a month they do a public viewing night (as opposed to members only or Lodge guests only).  I figured it'd be too late to drive home afterward and I was right.  They take that shit seriously.

 If you haven't checked out her blog yet, she's doing Austin Monthly's "110 Fun Things To Do In The Summer", and it's pretty entertaining.  And for those of you that ask me, every time I come to your town, "what's Dorothy doing?  Why isn't she here?", you won't have to ask me that any more.

Faded Sailors of the Caribbean

So, back safely from another great Music Cruise with Cross Canadian Ragweed, Stoney Larue, and Wade Bowen.  Had a great time, as always.  Thought I would share with you a little video I cut together - the RK boys (minus me and Shifty), and George Devore donned sailor outfits to surprise Ragweed (and the crowd) onstage during their set.  I followed close behind, armed with my trusty iPhone camera in one hand, and a cocktail in the other.
